ISLAMABAD: Four members of a local peace committee were killed in a shooting incident in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province today, according to Geo News. Police in Pakistan stated that the individuals were returning from a local jirga in the Gulbadin Lundi area of Bannu when they were targeted by unidentified gunmen. Authorities have launched a search operation to identify and apprehend the attackers and to secure the area. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has seen a rise in armed attacks over the past year. Just yesterday, seven police officers were killed in a separate attack in the province. The Pakistani military reported that in 2025, 71% of the country’s security incidents occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, attributing the increase to insurgent infiltration from Afghanistan.
