KABUL: Richard Lindsay, the UK Special Representative for Afghanistan, emphasized in a message marking the New Year that the UK is committed to supporting the people of Afghanistan. He wrote, “Britain stands with you and is committed to supporting a future filled with stability, opportunity, and dignity for all.” Lindsay, who was appointed as the UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan at the end of June, has previously reiterated London’s support for the Afghan people. He has made one trip to Kabul so far, where he met and discussed issues with Taliban officials. After this visit, the UK Special Representative stated that the crisis in Afghanistan can only be resolved through comprehensive dialogue. He has also expressed concerns multiple times regarding the restrictions on the rights and freedoms of women and girls, calling for their repeal.
