KANDAHAR: Local sources in Kandahar report that Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has instructed several shopkeepers to sell goods only to women wearing burqas. According to the sources, the directive was issued on Wednesday, in various areas of Kandahar city. The Taliban have warned that shopkeepers who fail to comply will face the closure of their stores. Women not wearing the burqa have reportedly been barred from shopping in the market, and sellers are under pressure to refrain from offering goods to them. This action is part of the strict restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women’s clothing and social presence in Afghanistan since their return to power.
