KABUL: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has announced that, following the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, emergency aid and essential healthcare services have been provided to over 11,000 pregnant women in affected areas. The organization reported on Saturday that its health teams have been deployed to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Nuristan provinces to offer healthcare services to women and expectant mothers. UNFPA emphasized that its main priority is to protect the health and safety of women and girls, as well as to provide immediate reproductive care for mothers. According to the organization, reproductive health supplies have been sent to health centers and hospitals to support thousands of safe deliveries and to provide essential medical facilities to women and girls in need. The UNFPA representative in Afghanistan has also warned that natural disasters can turn challenging pregnancy conditions into life-threatening crises, making the provision of essential care to prevent further casualties vital.
