Deadly explosion killed 17, injured 36 in Quetta

QUETTA: Local sources in Balochistan, Pakistan, report that at least 17 people were killed and 36 others injured in a suicide attack in Quetta. According to the sources, the explosion occurred during a ceremony commemorating a local Baloch elder, resulting in a total of 53 casualties. The incident has been described as a “suicide attack.” Prominent political leaders, including Akhtar Mengal, head of the Baloch political party, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, a political leader from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were present at the event but were unharmed. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. In recent years, Pakistan has witnessed an increase in armed attacks, bomb explosions, and suicide operations, particularly in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Just a few days earlier, another explosion in Balochistan left more than 20 dead and injured.
