KABUL: The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the hunger crisis in Afghanistan is alarmingly increasing, requiring $539 million in financial assistance to aid those in need over the next six months. In a statement the organization said on Sunday on its X account that returning women and children are particularly affected by this crisis. According to the report, hunger in Afghanistan is deepening daily, with two-thirds of female-headed households unable to secure adequate food supplies. Additionally, 3.5 million children in Afghanistan are struggling with malnutrition. The WFP emphasized that at least 10 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian assistance to survive. Currently, Afghanistan ranks at the top of the list of countries facing the highest levels of food insecurity.
