KABUL: Officials of the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health have announced the commencement of construction for 20 general hospitals across 318 districts in the country. During a program sharing the ministry’s annual achievements, officials stated that they have secured funding for the construction of these hospitals, with five already completed. The hospitals are being built with financial support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), providing job opportunities for 47,000 skilled and 25,000 unskilled personnel during the construction phase. The Ministry of Public Health had previously indicated plans for the establishment of hospitals and health centers in many regions of the country. This statement comes at a time when residents of remote areas still lack access to healthcare services. They have expressed concerns that the absence of clinics and hospitals makes timely treatment of patients impossible. However, the Ministry of Public Health has assured that it is giving serious attention to this issue.
