KABUL: The special representative of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan has held discussions with a senior U.S. State Department official regarding the threat of terrorism and the regional security situation.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry announced that Ismatulla Irgashev, the country’s special envoy for Afghanistan, met with Mary Bischoping, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asian Affairs.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the threats posed by terrorism and extremism, emphasizing the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating these issues.

According to the statement, U.S. and Uzbek officials also exchanged views on the peace process in Afghanistan and expressed a desire to maintain regular dialogue on developments in the country.

Central Asian countries have repeatedly warned that the activities of extremist groups in Afghanistan, especially following the Taliban’s return to power, pose a serious threat to regional security.
