Ayesha Wahab, a Democratic candidate, is leading the race for California’s 14th congressional district in the East Bay, securing more than 57% of the vote, according to preliminary results.
Her rival, Melissa Hernandez, has received about 43% of the vote. The figures put Wahab ahead in the contest, although the final outcome will depend on the completion and official certification of the results.
Wahab previously defeated Hernandez in an August special election to fill the seat vacated by Eric Swalwell in the House of Representatives. The 3 November election was held to determine who would serve a full two-year term, beginning in January 2027.
