Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said the United States spent $11bn of taxpayers’ money on missile defence for Israel over the past three years.
According to Iranian media reports, Araghchi claimed that the US had fired more interceptor missiles in defence of Israel than Israel itself had used.
He criticised Washington’s support for Israel, describing the relationship between the two countries as “one-sided” and arguing that it was no longer based on mutual interests.
The US is one of Israel’s main military allies and provides substantial military assistance, including support for its missile defence systems.
The $11bn figure and Araghchi’s comparison of interceptor missile use have not been independently verified in this report.
