The US military’s Central Command (Centcom) has accused Iran of being the only country attacking civilian sailors transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, 14 October, Centcom rejected allegations by Iran’s ambassador to the International Maritime Organization that US forces had used threatening, insulting and provocative language towards Iranian sailors.
Centcom said US forces and their regional partners would continue to protect maritime traffic despite rising security risks. It added that the US naval blockade of Iran had been in place for months and that related communications were being handled professionally.
