Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, has warned that any military action by Pakistan on Afghan territory would face a response from the Taliban government.
Speaking to Al Arabiya English, Mujahid said that if Pakistan violated Afghanistan’s sovereignty under the pretext of self-defence, the Taliban would defend the country’s territory and sovereignty, and such an action would be met with a “crushing response”.
At the same time, he said Afghanistan did not want a conflict with Pakistan and that differences between the two countries should be resolved through dialogue and cooperation. Mujahid also called for stronger security cooperation and information-sharing mechanisms between Kabul and Islamabad.
The Taliban spokesperson rejected Pakistan’s allegations that the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operates from Afghan territory, saying the Taliban would not allow Afghan soil to be used to launch attacks against other countries.
The remarks come amid continued tensions between Kabul and Islamabad over security issues and the activities of the TTP. Pakistan accuses the Taliban of allowing the group to operate from Afghanistan, a claim the Taliban denies.
