Ibrahim Kalin, head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), has visited Kabul and Kandahar for talks with senior Taliban officials.
Kalin met Abdul Haq Wasiq, head of the Taliban’s intelligence agency, as well as senior officials including Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Defence Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid and Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
The discussions focused on strengthening security and intelligence cooperation, bilateral relations, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics and efforts to combat human smuggling. Regional and global developments were also discussed.
Recent reports do not specifically say that Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions were discussed during Kalin’s latest visit. Türkiye has previously been involved in efforts to ease tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, including through talks in Doha.
