US President Donald Trump has rejected a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for direct US military strikes against the Houthis, according to Axios.
The report says the crown prince spoke to Trump twice about the worsening situation in Yemen and later asked Washington to launch attacks against the Iran-backed group.
The US has instead increased its support for Saudi Arabia by sharing intelligence on Houthi targets. About 200 US troops are also reported to be stationed in Saudi Arabia.
Axios says Washington has so far avoided direct military intervention in Yemen, focusing instead on Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
