Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has travelled to Canada, saying strengthening Ukraine’s air defences and preparing for the coming winter are key priorities of his visit.
Zelenskyy said he would hold important meetings with Canadian officials and seek agreements on further support for Ukraine. He is also due to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Canadian prime minister’s office said the talks would focus on cooperation in defence, the economy and energy. Canada has also reaffirmed its support for Ukraine’s defence and reconstruction efforts.
Before travelling to Canada, Zelenskyy met Iceland’s foreign minister, where they discussed protecting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, strengthening its air defences and preparing for the winter.
The Ukrainian president is seeking greater international support as Russian air strikes continue and concerns grow over the security of Ukraine’s electricity and energy infrastructure ahead of the winter months.
