Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of Afghanistan’s Hezb-e Islami, has called on his supporters to cut party ties with people who support or praise the Taliban and other Afghan political groups.
Hekmatyar made the call in a message posted on X on 4 September, addressing what he described as the party’s “committed” members.
He said party members should sever ties with those who support or praise the former monarchy, the government of Mohammad Daoud Khan, communists, Jamiat-e Islami, the Shura-e Nazar, the Taliban or other political groups, or who have joined them.
He also urged his supporters to tell those who have joined other political movements: “Remain loyal to them and do not mention the party’s name again.”
