Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid says the ban on public protests in Afghanistan has been imposed in accordance with Islamic law.
He said people could raise their concerns, demands and criticisms with the government through official channels.
Mujahid also claimed that the ban would help prevent disruption to public life and damage to private property.
Human rights organisations, however, have expressed concern over restrictions on public protests, saying such measures limit people’s rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
