Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Turkey could strengthen its ties with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a group led by China and Russia.
Erdogan said Turkey would consider full membership of the organisation, but stressed that such a move would not mean turning away from the West or abandoning its existing alliances, including NATO.
Turkey is currently a “dialogue partner” of the SCO. Erdogan made the comments while returning from the organisation’s summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
