According to international media reports, Saudi Arabia is preparing for a possible new military operation against Yemen’s Houthi group, aimed at securing the Red Sea and the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. Reports suggest that coordination efforts have begun for potential naval and ground operations, with Saudi Arabia working alongside Pakistan and other regional partners. Riyadh has officially announced the formation of a new “international maritime defence coalition” involving 14 countries. The coalition reportedly includes Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti and others, with the stated aim of countering Houthi maritime threats and protecting key energy and trade routes. Political and military analysts say the move could present significant challenges for Saudi Arabia and its allies. The kingdom previously led a coalition campaign against the Houthis in Yemen for several years, but failed to achieve a decisive military victory. During the conflict, the Houthis gradually expanded their control over several key areas of Yemen, including the capital, Sana’a.
