Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has said the country’s current system of governance is no longer capable of addressing its national challenges and requires fundamental reforms. Speaking at an economic conference in Islamabad on Thursday, Naqvi warned that Pakistan would still be facing the same problems a decade from now if the existing system remained unchanged. “The system under which we are currently living has failed. These problems cannot be solved within this system. If it continues, we will still be sitting here 10 years from now discussing the same issues,” he said. Naqvi also called for devolving some administrative powers to lower levels of government and creating new administrative units, which, he said, could be organised as provinces or under another administrative framework.
