Saudi-based Al Arabiya, citing a source, has reported that Iran has informed Pakistan that it is ready to resume negotiations with the United States in Geneva, Doha or Islamabad. According to the report, Tehran wants the talks to be held based on a “memorandum of understanding” signed with Pakistan’s mediation. The source told Al Arabiya that Iran has proposed discussing the Strait of Hormuz first, followed by its frozen assets, and then its nuclear programme. The source also said that Iran opposes the creation of a new corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. The report comes as US strikes on Iran and Iranian attacks on US positions in the region have stopped after nearly two weeks of conflict. Disagreements over the management of the Strait of Hormuz have been cited as one of the main factors behind the renewed tensions between the two countries. Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the United Nations, has also said that President Donald Trump halted attacks on Iran to give diplomacy an opportunity.
