The Afghan Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the latest attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on a Saudi oil tanker in the Bab el-Mandeb strait in the Red Sea, and has stressed the importance of safeguarding the security of international shipping lanes. According to a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesman, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the Taliban said that ensuring the security of international maritime routes, guaranteeing the freedom of navigation, and protecting the flow of global trade remain among their consistent positions. The ministry emphasised that all threats and obstacles to these routes must be prevented. The statement called on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions and conflict, and to resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means. The Afghan Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the peaceful resolution of disputes could play a significant role in strengthening regional security and stability.
