The UK government has said its armed forces are fully prepared to defend the country against any Iranian attack, following recent warnings issued by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to Reuters. The comments came after the IRGC warned Britain over the possible use of UK military bases by US bombers. A UK government spokesperson said: “Our armed forces stand ready to defend the United Kingdom against any attack, whether at home or overseas. The UK remains prepared to protect itself at all times.” According to Reuters, Britain’s defence posture includes a multi-layered air and missile defence system, supported by the Royal Navy, the British Army and the Royal Air Force, working closely with NATO allies. Reuters also noted that RAF Akrotiri, Britain’s military base in Cyprus, was targeted by Iranian drones in March last year, shortly after the UK agreed to a US request to use its military facilities for what London described as defensive operations.
