Iran’s former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been placed under house arrest by the intelligence organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) following the disclosure of alleged contacts with Israel, according to a report by The New York Times citing four senior Iranian officials. The report claims that Israel had made efforts to establish communication with Ahmadinejad, an alleged move that raised concerns among Iranian security authorities. However, Iranian government officials and the IRGC have not publicly confirmed or denied the report. Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013. Since leaving office, he has occasionally taken positions that differ from those of Iran’s main political currents.
