Lindsey Graham, the senior Republican US senator from South Carolina, has died at the age of 71 after a sudden illness, his office has announced. A statement said Senator Graham died following a brief illness but did not disclose the cause of death or provide further details. Graham served in the US Senate since 2003 and was one of the Republican Party’s most influential voices on foreign policy and national security. Although he was an outspoken critic of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, he later became one of the president’s closest political allies.
