KABUL — Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs has asked mosque imams to address the impact of social media and the internet on young people during Friday sermons and encourage them to avoid what it describes as “immoral practices”. A guidance document issued for Friday sermons says the ministry believes the faith of some Afghan youths has weakened and that their knowledge of religious issues and teachings has declined. Some Taliban officials have previously blamed internet use and social media for what they describe as problems affecting the younger generation. The guidance document also claims that the situation is a “major achievement for the West”.
