A newly built road in Afghanistan’s Wakhan district of Badakhshan province, extending to the Chinese border, has been opened to traffic.
Afghan authorities say the opening of the road will help facilitate trade with China through the Wakhan Corridor and boost economic activity in Badakhshan.
The project covers about 121km and is being described by officials as an important step towards establishing a land connection between Afghanistan and China.
Officials have also said measures will be taken to ensure the security and maintenance of the route.
