Ukraine is facing serious challenges ahead of the winter as continued Russian attacks put pressure on its energy infrastructure and air defence capabilities, France’s Le Monde has reported.
The report says Ukraine’s stocks of air defence ammunition have been significantly reduced, while repeated Russian attacks on energy, water and transport infrastructure have increased concerns about the coming winter.
Le Monde reports that Ukraine is also facing shortages of missiles for key air defence systems, including Patriot systems, making it more difficult to protect critical infrastructure from Russian air strikes.
Ukrainian authorities are preparing for the winter and seeking to strengthen the protection of essential infrastructure. However, the report warns that continued Russian attacks could increase the risk of power and other essential service disruptions.
According to Le Monde, Ukraine’s ability to withstand the winter will depend heavily on strengthening its air defences and maintaining international support.
