Pakistan says there has been no change in its policy towards Afghanistan, despite recent speculation about possible talks and a new mechanism to address tensions between the two countries.
The statement comes after reports that Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani had proposed bilateral talks with Pakistan to address outstanding issues. Islamabad has also acknowledged the proposal for a dedicated mechanism between the two sides.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban authorities to prevent armed groups, particularly the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), from using Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan.
The Taliban have rejected Pakistan’s allegations and have said Afghanistan’s territory will not be used against other countries.
