Iran has warned the United States that attacks on American military vessels could intensify if Washington continues what Tehran describes as interference with Iranian ships.
The spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said any continued attempts to disrupt the movement of Iranian vessels or impose a naval blockade could lead to a stronger response from Iran’s armed forces.
The warning follows a statement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) that three Iranian oil tankers had been targeted.
CENTCOM said the strikes came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles at two US Navy vessels patrolling in the region.
US Central Command commander Brad Cooper also warned that any attack on American ships would result in further economic pressure on Iran.
The Iranian military official, however, said that if the confrontation continued, Iran’s response against US military vessels would be “much stronger than before”.
