Amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, Tehran has launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on US military bases in six Arab countries. Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Oman and the United Arab Emirates have confirmed that they were targeted in the latest wave of attacks. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had struck US command centres, drone facilities, radar systems and missile launch sites in the region. Qatar said three people, including a child, were injured by shrapnel, while Jordan reported intercepting four Iranian missiles with no casualties or significant damage. Kuwait said some oil facilities were damaged and one worker was injured. Iran has also announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, saying the situation would remain unchanged. The move triggered a rise of more than 4% in global oil prices. The latest escalation follows US strikes on Iran and has further undermined a temporary ceasefire between the two sides. US President Donald Trump said, “We are hitting them hard,” while Tehran has vowed a “severe response”. The attacks on six neighbouring countries have deepened fears of a wider regional conflict and raised concerns over the impact on global energy supplies.
