Qatari media have reported that former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani died on Sunday morning at the age of 74. Sheikh Hamad served as Qatar’s emir from 1995 to 2013 and was regarded as a key figure in the country’s economic, social and cultural transformation. During his rule, Qatar experienced significant development, with major investments in infrastructure, international relations and economic growth. He was succeeded by his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in 2013.
