Houthis: We Will Target Riyadh if Airspace Violations Continue

Yemen’s Houthi movement said its forces had confronted what it described as Saudi fighter jets that were attempting to prevent an Iranian civilian aircraft from landing at Sanaa International Airport. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group would target Saudi airports and other vital facilities on land and at sea if Saudi Arabia continued what he described as violations of Yemen’s airspace. He said flights between Sanaa and Tehran would continue despite what he called potential consequences. Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported that an Iranian civilian aircraft landed in Sanaa on Friday before transporting an official Houthi delegation to Tehran to attend the funeral of former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. The broadcaster said more than 200 patients were also on board the aircraft. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led military coalition rejected the Houthi statements early on Saturday, saying they were an attempt to divert attention from what it described as the group’s actions against the Yemeni people. The coalition warned that it would respond with “decisiveness” and “unprecedented force” to any attempt to target Saudi Arabia or violate Yemen’s sovereignty. Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition in Yemen since 2015, after the Iran-backed Houthi movement seized control of Sanaa.
