New York Post Report Raises Questions Over Handling and Burial of Alleged Ali Khamenei Remains

The New York Post, in a recent report, has highlighted claims and speculation regarding the timing and circumstances surrounding the burial of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran. According to the report, the delay in the burial process has raised questions about how the body may have been preserved, as well as the conditions following his reported death. It suggests that under Islamic tradition, burial is generally expected to take place quickly, and chemical embalming is typically discouraged. A terrorism expert, Dr. Mohammad Omar, speaking to Fox News Digital, was quoted as saying that in such cases, highly advanced cold-storage facilities are almost certainly used instead of embalming, since Islamic law prohibits chemical preservation methods. He further stated that Shia jurisprudence allows exceptions in certain circumstances, including delays in burial and preservation using cold storage, adding that obtaining a religious exemption for a senior Iranian leader would not be particularly difficult. Omar also noted that it is possible that little or no intact remains may be available for public viewing. He claimed that Khamenei was killed in an attack involving penetrating munitions targeting a bunker, and that other individuals killed alongside him were only identified weeks later through DNA testing. He further argued that if a government had access to an intact body, it would not typically delay farewell ceremonies, repeatedly change burial locations, or suggest that burial may only be possible days later.
