An Iranian religious representative in India, Ayatollah Hakim Elahi, has said that Mojtaba Khamenei, the newly reported leader of Iran, will not attend his father Ali Khamenei’s funeral in public due to security concerns. Speaking to India Today, the envoy said he had been in Iran last week and discussed the matter with individuals who had recently met Mojtaba Khamenei. According to him, those individuals said Mojtaba Khamenei had expressed a desire to appear among the public and meet people, but security forces did not allow it. “They said this is extremely dangerous and we cannot ensure his security,” he added. “In my view, he will not appear in public.” The remarks come amid heightened security sensitivities surrounding the funeral arrangements and public visibility of senior Iranian figures.
