Tehran — Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has stated that Iran will not compromise on control over the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the issue is “not open to negotiation” and urging the United States to avoid what he described as “crossing agreed frameworks.” In an interview, Ghalibaf said Iran will continue providing services in the strategic waterway over the next 60 days and added that all legal and operational arrangements have been finalized with Oman. He also claimed that there are internal disagreements within the U.S. administration regarding policy toward Iran, accusing U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio of attempting to encourage Gulf states to take a more confrontational stance and to push Lebanon toward normalization with Israel. Ghalibaf stressed that Iran remains committed to the signed understanding with the United States, but described ongoing negotiations as a form of “war” with an “enemy.” Iran and the United States signed an agreement on June 17 aimed at ending hostilities, after which the first round of talks toward a final deal began in Switzerland.
