Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has stated on X that “revenge for the blood” of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will be taken from those identified as the “instigators and perpetrators” of his killing. According to the report, Ali Khamenei, the former leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was killed on approximately 28 February 2026, during the first day of attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory, along with several other officials of the Islamic Republic and some members of his family. It has also been announced that his funeral and burial ceremonies will be held between approximately 4–9 July 2026 in the cities of Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. Separate memorial ceremonies are also planned in Baghdad, Kadhimiya, Karbala, and Najaf in Iraq.
