Three judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, President of the United States, accusing him of exceeding his legal authority in imposing sanctions on court officials. The judges argue that the sanctions imposed by Trump over the court’s investigations into cases related to Afghanistan and Palestine fall outside the scope of presidential legal powers. According to the complaint filed on Wednesday at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Kimberly Prost of Canada, Solomy Balungi Bossa of Uganda, and Reine Alapini-Gansou of Benin are challenging an executive order issued by Trump in February 2025. The judges are seeking to have the order overturned, arguing that it violates the independence and judicial immunity of International Criminal Court officials.
