Italy: We did not take part in the war against Iran

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has reiterated that Italy has never participated in any war against Iran, stating that the country has acted strictly within the framework of agreements governing the use of military bases, without exceeding those terms. The remarks follow comments by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding the use of U.S. bases in Italy for military operations. Italian officials said those remarks led to a misunderstanding. Italy’s defence minister also said the comments were the result of “overexcitement” and had caused confusion. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the statements as evidence of NATO’s involvement in an unlawful war and called for the alliance to be held accountable.
