The US Senate has passed a measure that would require Donald Trump to obtain congressional approval to continue or suspend military operations against Iran. The resolution was approved by a narrow 50–48 vote, with support crossing party lines from both Republicans and Democrats. Trump criticised the move, calling it “poor timing” in a post on his social media platform. He argued that Iran is currently in a difficult position and willing to make significant concessions, but said the decision sends the wrong signal to Tehran. The measure reflects continuing tensions over the balance of war powers between Congress and the US presidency.
