Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the recent meeting between Iranian and US delegations in Switzerland was not formal negotiations on the nuclear programme, but a session in which both sides presented their positions. He said the time has not yet come to start formal talks for a final agreement, and that the formation of technical working groups and the start of official negotiations depend on the implementation of certain agreed provisions between the two sides. Baghaei said a “commitment-for-commitment” mechanism is being considered to ensure implementation of any future agreement. He also said talks involving Iran, the United States, Pakistan and Qatar are ongoing in Switzerland, aimed at reducing tensions and laying the groundwork for a comprehensive agreement.
