Syria’s interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, has rejected a proposal by US President Donald Trump suggesting that the Syrian army carry out operations in Lebanon against Hezbollah. In an interview broadcast on Sunday by the “Al-Mashhad” network, he said Syria has no intention of military intervention in Lebanon and is instead focused on strengthening economic ties. Al-Sharaa said Damascus is prioritising the expansion of commercial and economic relations with Lebanon, adding that this approach could contribute to stability. The remarks came after Trump said that the Syrian army could conduct operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon — a proposal that was strongly opposed by Damascus.
