U.S. Military Denies Report on Strait of Hormuz Closure

The United States military says claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed are not accurate, and that the strategic maritime route remains open and operational. A spokesperson for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Tim Hawkins, told Reuters that “Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz.” He added: “Vessel traffic is ongoing, and U.S. forces are continuously monitoring the situation to ensure stability of the flow.” The remarks came hours after the Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters announced that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz and instructed naval units of the IRGC to avoid approaching the waters. Current reports indicate that independent shipping authorities are also confirming the continuation of maritime traffic, while the region remains under military and naval surveillance.
