U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the nuclear agreement reached with Iran during the administration of former President Barack Obama was dangerous for security in the Middle East and provided Iran with an opportunity to expand its nuclear capabilities. Speaking to reporters during the Group of Seven (G7) summit, Trump said a new interim agreement with Iran clearly guarantees that Tehran will not obtain a nuclear weapon. He stressed that the agreement serves as a “strong barrier” to Iran’s nuclear programme. He said the agreement reached with Iran is very good and may also be submitted to the U.S. Congress for review. Trump added that he had not previously considered the matter, but now agrees with the idea of congressional review. According to a Reuters report, the new understanding establishes a framework for future talks between the United States and Iran, and both sides are expected to discuss the details of a final agreement over the next 60 days.
