The Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has announced that 550 morality inspectors from across Afghanistan’s 34 provinces have been called to Kabul for a three-day training seminar. According to the ministry, participants will receive instruction on religious outreach, reform activities, and a newly approved law for preachers endorsed by Hibatullah Akhundzada. The seminar comes amid increased scrutiny of the ministry following reports of its personnel’s actions against women in Herat, which triggered criticism, protests inside Afghanistan, and demonstrations in more than 15 cities worldwide. Critics say the ministry’s enforcement practices require greater transparency and respect for citizens’ rights.
