Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the “electronic signing” ceremony of a memorandum between Iran and the United States is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, June 14. In a statement regarding a telephone conversation between Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, and Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, the ministry said both sides welcomed the progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran, which have reached their final stages. The statement said that the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, referring to the “electronic signing” ceremony of the memorandum scheduled for tomorrow, expressed hope that the development would contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region. Hours earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, had also said that an agreement between Iran and the United States was expected to be finalized within the next 24 hours. He added that Pakistan was making preparations for the electronic signing ceremony of the memorandum and that technical negotiations between the two sides would begin next week. Pakistan, which has played the principal mediating role in the negotiations between Iran and the United States, has sought to facilitate a final agreement between the two parties following the establishment of a ceasefire on April 8.
