BEIJING, June 8 — Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the strengthening of strategic cooperation between China and North Korea, saying bilateral relations are expanding on the basis of equality, mutual respect and shared interests. According to China’s state news agency Xinhua News Agency, Xi made the remarks on Sunday, June 8, ahead of a visit to North Korea as part of bilateral engagements. Xi said relations between Beijing and Pyongyang have entered a new phase in recent years, with cooperation continuing to grow across multiple sectors. The Chinese president stated that, amid a complex and evolving international environment, the two countries have advanced their strategic partnership through mutual respect, political trust and mutually beneficial cooperation. He added that collaboration in trade, energy, science and technology, people-to-people exchanges and regional projects has continued, contributing to stronger ties between the two nations. Xi’s remarks come as Beijing and Pyongyang have sought in recent years to expand their political and economic cooperation within the framework of their longstanding bilateral relationship.
