U.S. House of Representatives Passes Resolution Opposing War with Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a resolution opposing President Donald Trump’s war against Iran by a vote of 215 to 208, with four Republicans joining Democrats in support. The measure calls on Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities involving Iran unless Congress formally declares war or authorizes military action. However, the resolution is not legally binding and does not require an end to the conflict. Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said the war had failed to achieve its stated goals while its economic and political costs continued to rise. Democratic Representative Mark Pocan expressed hope that the Senate would also approve the measure, increasing Congress’s role in overseeing U.S. military action against Iran.
