Iran Reviewing Possible Memorandum of Understanding with the United States A source familiar with the negotiation process between Iran and the United States has said that a possible memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington is currently under review, and that Iran has not yet provided a final response to the US side. According to Iran’s Mehr News Agency on Tuesday, the source said that the history of disputes between the two countries and Tehran’s lack of trust in US commitments have led Iranian officials to approach the matter with increased caution and scrutiny. The source stated that Iran, drawing on past experience, is seeking tangible and enforceable gains in the negotiations rather than commitments that exist only on paper. “America is concerned about war, while Iran is concerned about an agreement,” the source said. “Washington has paid significant costs for war but has not achieved its intended objectives.” The source added that Tehran is seeking concrete and practical measures from the United States as part of the ongoing talks. Negotiations between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan, have been underway for several weeks, with both sides continuing discussions on outstanding issues. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday that a permanent ceasefire in Lebanon remains one of Tehran’s key conditions for reaching an agreement with Washington. Despite the continuation of the talks, it remains unclear whether the two sides will ultimately reach a final agreement after weeks of negotiations.
