US Says Strikes on Bandar Abbas Conducted in ‘Self-Defence’, Could Affect Peace Talks

The United States has said that the recent strikes on Bandar Abbas were carried out under the framework of “self-defence” and aimed at protecting American forces against threats attributed to Iranian forces. US officials said the operation targeted several rocket launch sites and a number of Iranian vessels. Washington stressed that it had acted with “restraint” despite attacks from Iran and said no American personnel were harmed in the incidents. According to media reports, clashes have occurred several times since the ceasefire came into effect. Donald Trump had previously said that such incidents should not be considered violations of the ceasefire. Despite rising tensions, some analysts believe the developments are unlikely to fully derail peace negotiations, although they may influence the broader atmosphere surrounding the talks.
